‘NCIS: Origins’ Boss Talks Mark Harmon & Michael Weatherly Reunion Is “An Episode No Fan Will Want To Miss” As New Photos Drop

Deadline ·

“NCIS: Origins” will reunite Mark Harmon’s Gibbs with Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo in an episode airing on 20 October. Showrunner David J. North says the reunion follows fan interest and is part of a present-day storyline that advances Gibbs’ season-long arc.

Gibbs returns to NCIS headquarters after being shot by unknown attackers and seeks DiNozzo’s help to investigate a suspect whose record is buried in red tape. DiNozzo, now the agency’s director, will appear only in this episode; Ziva is also mentioned. North says the episode will not include their familiar head-slapping, and a season finale secret will shed light on why Lala is absent from the original series.

NCIS is a long-running American television crime drama about the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which investigates crimes involving the US Navy and Marine Corps. NCIS: Origins is a prequel, following Leroy Jethro Gibbs early in his career; Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs in the original series, narrates it and appears in its present-day storyline.

Michael Weatherly played Tony DiNozzo, an NCIS agent who worked with Gibbs for years, in the original series. Tony later became the agency’s director, while Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David was another central character in the team’s history.

The shows connect Gibbs’ earlier years with events later in his life, so familiar characters can appear in both timelines. Lala, played by Mariel Molino, is a colleague in Origins; she was not part of the original series, and the prequel’s story is expected to explain that absence.
