Nearly 12 Million Capcom ID Accounts Affected in Huge Data Breach
Capcom says unauthorised access affected 11,774,247 Capcom ID accounts, exposing email addresses and some account activity details. The breach matters because Capcom ID is used for online play and cross-platform features in some of the company’s games, and the exposed details could be used in impersonation attempts.
Capcom reports that passwords originally chosen by customers have not been confirmed as compromised, but unauthorised password changes were made on 196 accounts; those passwords have been reset. The company says payment card details were not accessed and customers can continue using their accounts, while it investigates and plans to notify affected users.
In short
- Nearly 11.8 million Capcom ID accounts were accessed.
- Email addresses and account details were exposed.
- No card data was accessed; 196 passwords were reset.
