Nearly a Decade After Launch on PS4, the Original Darkest Dungeon Is Getting New DLC

Push Square · 6 hours ago

Red Hook Studios has announced The Fire's Edge, the first new DLC for the original Darkest Dungeon in over six years, arriving on PS4 and other platforms on 18th August 2026. The release marks nearly a decade since the acclaimed roguelike strategy RPG first launched, and gives long-time fans of the original game fresh content well after its sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2, took the series in a different direction.

The Fire's Edge adds two new playable characters, The Duelist and The Runaway, both previously seen in Darkest Dungeon 2, bringing the Burn mechanic with them into the original game. It also introduces three new districts, additional Trinkets with unique effects, and new writing and events, with the developer promising further surprises. The move echoes a wider trend of older titles receiving unexpected late-life expansions, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's upcoming 2027 expansion.
