Nebraska fires offensive coordinator with season spiraling into ugly collapse
Nebraska has fired offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen after a 24-13 defeat by Illinois extended the team’s losing streak to four games. The move follows a sharp decline after a 5-0 start, with head coach Matt Rhule saying the offensive plan and its execution were not working.
Nebraska scored at least 31 points in each of its first five games but has not reached 20 in any of its last four, averaging 13.5 points during that run. The Cornhuskers are now 5-4 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play; co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas will call plays for the rest of the season. Holgorsen, 55, had been in charge of play-calling since late in the 2024 season, despite Rhule publicly backing him earlier this week.
In short
- Nebraska dismissed Dana Holgorsen after four straight defeats.
- The team averaged 13.5 points across those losses.
- Glenn Thomas will take over play-calling duties.
