Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts Announce New Album Second Song: Hear The Title Track
Developed over time first seen 2 months ago
Neil Young and his backing band, the Chrome Hearts, will release a new album, Second Song, on 18 September through Reprise Records. The announcement is accompanied by the 11-minute title track, which offers an extended, reflective preview of the project and follows Young’s 2025 album Talkin’ to the Trees.
The seven-track album combines newly written songs with previously unreleased material from 1963 that Young has revisited. Young plays a range of instruments alongside drummer Anthony LoGerfo, bassist Corey McCormick, guitarist Micah Nelson and keyboard player Spooner Oldham; the title track’s lyrics address generational change and songwriting, while also featuring harmonica passages and surreal narrative imagery.

Neil Young is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose career has spanned more than six decades. He is known for moving between folk, rock and country styles, both as a solo artist and with groups including Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
The Chrome Hearts are Young’s current backing band, made up of musicians who have worked with him on recent recordings and tours. Reprise Records, which is releasing the album, has been one of Young’s main record labels for much of his career.
The new record brings together recent writing and older material that Young first worked on in the early 1960s. Revisiting unfinished songs is a recurring feature of his catalogue, which includes a large archive of recordings from different periods.
