Netflix Acquires Joel Coen’s ‘Jack of Spades,’ Planning Big Push for Next Oscar Season

Netflix has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Joel Coen’s next film, *Jack of Spades*, and plans a theatrical release in autumn 2027 before it streams. The deal signals that Netflix sees the gothic mystery as a major awards prospect for the following Oscar season.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film is based on Frances Frederica Montrésor’s 1901 novel *The Alien: A Story of Middle Age* and centres on intrigue and betrayal. It stars Patsy Ferran, Josh O’Connor, Damian Lewis and Lesley Manville; Joel and Ethan Coen co-wrote the screenplay with Eleanor Catton and Conor McPherson.
