Netflix has unveiled The East Palace, a Korean television series that marries supernatural horror with the historical court drama tradition long established in Korean television. The series brings together accomplished filmmakers—director Choi Jung-kyu and screenwriters with prior credits on acclaimed dark fantasy productions—alongside a celebrated cast anchored by Cho Seung-woo and Nam Joo-hyuk.

The narrative follows a spiritual medium named Gu-cheon, forced by the King to investigate a mysterious curse that has claimed most of the royal family's heirs. Possessing the ability to perceive and communicate with vengeful spirits dwelling in both the mortal world and a hellish supernatural realm, Gu-cheon partners with a noblewoman harbouring her own connection to the spirit world. Together they navigate palace secrets and historical misdeeds whilst attempting to identify who or what is responsible for the family's decimation.
