Netflix Is About to Lose The Most Inventive Sci-Fi Thriller of the Decade
Netflix will remove A Quiet Place Part II from its platform on 11 October 2026. The film is a worthy sequel to the 2018 horror-thriller that surprised audiences with its premise of aliens that hunt by sound. Director John Krasinski initially had no plans for a sequel, but decided to continue the story after realising he could make the deaf teenage daughter Regan the central protagonist, transforming her cochlear implant into a symbol of hope and strength.
Part II expands the world of the original film whilst remaining true to its core themes. The sequel moves beyond the family farm to reveal an island of survivors and depicts the initial alien invasion, including details such as the creatures' inability to swim. By shifting location and perspective, Krasinski created a film that complements rather than repeats the original, demonstrating how expansive the A Quiet Place universe can be, as proven by subsequent spin-offs including the 2024 film A Quiet Place: Day One set in New York City.

The A Quiet Place franchise began with a 2018 horror-thriller built on an innovative premise: a story about a family surviving an alien invasion with minimal dialogue, as creatures that hunt by sound become the central threat. Written and directed by John Krasinski, the film became a commercial and critical success that drew audiences with its distinctive approach to storytelling.
A Quiet Place Part II arrived in 2021 and demonstrated the franchise could expand beyond its original concept. Krasinski chose to centre the narrative on Regan, the deaf teenage daughter from the first film, transforming her cochlear implant into a symbol of hope and strength rather than limitation. The film also broadened the world, introducing an island of survivors and depicting the initial alien invasion, showing how expansive the story could become.
The franchise has continued since then with additional films including the 2024 film A Quiet Place: Day One set in New York City. Subsequent spin-offs have demonstrated that the original premise can sustain stories across different filmmakers, time periods and settings.
