Netflix Is Getting One of the Best Horror Sequels of the Decade in 48 Hours
Netflix is set to add Smile 2, the acclaimed 2024 horror sequel, to its streaming library on 3 September, giving the film a new audience nearly two years after its cinema release. Directed by Parker Finn, the film follows on from 2022's Smile, which became a surprise box-office hit and launched a new horror franchise for Paramount; the sequel expanded the concept further by placing a global pop star at the centre of its supernatural terror.
The film stars Naomi Scott as pop star Skye Riley, who becomes tormented by the sinister smiling entity from the original film while preparing for a world tour, alongside Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner and Lukas Gage. Smile 2 was both a critical and commercial success, earning an 86% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes (up from 79% for the original) and grossing $138.1 million worldwide, split almost evenly between domestic and international box offices.
