Netflix Is Turning One of the Decade’s Biggest Murder Mystery Books Into a New Crime Series

Collider · 33 minutes ago

Netflix is developing a television series based on Richard Osman's crime novel "We Solve Murders", marking his second collaboration with the streamer after last year's film adaptation of "The Thursday Murder Club". Unlike that earlier project, this one is planned as an ongoing series rather than a single film, giving the story room for a more expansive, globe-trotting plot. The move could establish a second major franchise for Osman, who has become one of the most prominent names in the "cozy crime" genre.

The book follows an unlikely trio of investigators: young private security officer Amy Wheeler, her retired-policeman father-in-law Steve, and wealthy novelist Rosie D'Antario, who become entangled in a conspiracy after Amy is framed for a series of murders. It exists separately from the Thursday Murder Club universe, featuring younger characters, more exotic settings and higher-stakes action, though it retains Osman's characteristic warmth and humour. A sequel novel, "We Chase Shadows", is due for release later this month. Netflix has not yet formally commissioned the series, meaning the project remains in early development.
