Netflix is developing a feature film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's romance novel "Deep End," having secured the rights in a major pre-emptive deal before the book's publication. The project brings together high-profile producers, including Shawn Levy's 21 Laps and Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions, and reflects Netflix's continued push into the "New Adult" romance genre, which has proven popular with BookTok audiences and has previously boosted sales of adapted novels.

Published in 2025 by Berkley, "Deep End" became an instant New York Times number one bestseller and follows a forbidden romance between a competitive diver and a swimmer at college; it has sold nearly 1.5 million copies across 21 territories. Laura Kosann will write the screenplay, with Levy, Dan Levine, Cooper and Matt Kaplan producing, and Hazelwood serving as executive producer. It marks Hazelwood's second novel to be adapted for the screen, following "The Love Hypothesis," due on Prime Video in September, and follows Netflix's earlier New Adult adaptations including "People We Meet on Vacation" and the upcoming "Icebreaker."
