Netflix is developing Ravenloft, a live-action horror series based on the Dungeons & Dragons setting of the same name, with Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón attached as executive producer. It marks the latest attempt to bring D&D to the screen following a mixed history that includes the poorly received 2000 film, several stalled projects and the more warmly received 2023 film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

First introduced in 1983, Ravenloft is a gothic horror setting made up of mist-covered domains, each ruled by a "Darklord," the best-known being the vampire Strahd von Zarovich, alongside other realms echoing Dracula and Frankenstein. Cuarón, known for Gravity, Children of Men and Roma, already has ties to Netflix through Roma and previously made the Apple TV+ miniseries Disclaimer. The series will be written and executive produced by John August, a frequent collaborator of Tim Burton known for Big Fish.
