Netflix is removing the original Scream trilogy from its platform this weekend, with 23 August confirmed as the last day to stream the first three films in the franchise. The move comes as 2026 has proven a landmark year for horror at the box office, with hits such as Obsession and Backrooms drawing huge audiences before finding new homes on Peacock and HBO Max respectively.

The departure affects only Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 3, while the more recent instalments, Scream (2022) and Scream 6 (2023), will remain available on Netflix. This comes shortly after Scream 7, which grossed over $200 million against a $45 million budget, became available to stream on Paramount Plus following its February cinema release.
