Netflix Orders Two Seasons of A24’s ‘The Apology’ Starring Gwyneth Paltrow

Netflix has ordered two seasons of The Apology, a drama starring Gwyneth Paltrow and produced by A24. The series centres on a couple whose long-running grief and hopes for justice are upended when a stranger confesses to their son’s murder, but may receive a reduced sentence.

Thomas Vinterberg will direct and executive produce with Paltrow, Joe Hipps and creator-showrunner Joe Murtagh. The order was made before Peter Rice became Netflix’s chief content officer; it comes amid a wider restructuring that included about 1,000 layoffs, roughly six per cent of staff, and the departure of film chief Dan Lin and other executives.
