Netflix has partnered with the British Library to encourage people across the UK to read the books behind popular films and television series. The initiative, involving local public libraries, is significant because it supports the 2026 National Year of Reading and aims to address declining enjoyment of reading.

Netflix will fund literary conservation and donate collections featuring titles such as Frankenstein, Pride and Prejudice and Heartstopper to 100 public libraries. The partnership will also host streamed events about adaptation, including discussions with Florence Pugh, Zoe Kazan and other stars. Research suggests screen adaptations can help reluctant readers, with 12% of adult fiction bought by occasional readers linked to a film or television adaptation.
