Collider · 4 hours ago

Netflix’s true-crime documentary A Toxic Love Story has become a global streaming hit shortly after its release, reaching the Top 10 in more than 85 regions. Its popularity matters because the 90-minute film has quickly matched the international appeal of other Netflix crime documentaries centred on deception and abuse.

Released on 22 July 2026, the film was number one in 19 markets by 24 July and later topped charts including the UK, Australia, Ireland, Iceland and New Zealand. It recounts how Michelle Hadley spent 88 days in a California jail after her former fiancé, US Marshal Ian Diaz, and his wife Angela Connell allegedly framed her through false online advertisements; Connell received five years for fraud and false police reports, while Diaz was sentenced to more than 10 years in 2023.
