Netflix Unveils U.S. Market Rollout For ‘La Bola Negra’ Theatrical Release

Deadline · 47 minutes ago

Netflix has confirmed the North American theatrical rollout for La Bola Negra, its Cannes Best Director-winning film from Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, ahead of a platform release beginning 16 October. The film, which traces three generations of men across nearly a century of Spanish history, will open in select cinemas in Los Angeles and New York before expanding through further US and Canadian markets and then going wide on 6 November. The release is part of a broader push by Netflix to report box office grosses for several of its theatrical titles, as the streamer looks to build audience momentum and strong per-theatre averages for the film.

The film opens at AMC Century City and AMC Burbank in Los Angeles, and the Angelika Film Center and The Paris Theater (both on 35mm) in New York, before spreading to dozens of additional cities including Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Vancouver, with several venues screening 35mm prints. Ambrossi and Calvo, who won Cannes' Best Director award in May, will join cast members for Q&As in Los Angeles and New York, following a well-received North American premiere at Telluride and an upcoming slot at TIFF. Netflix is also tracking grosses for other theatrical releases including David Fincher's The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth and Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, having scored its first domestic box office number one with KPop Demon Hunters Singalong in August 2025.
