AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, now available on Netflix, is presented as a richly expanded adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1976 novel. The series matters because its longer format allows it to explore the violent, romantic and deeply unhealthy relationship between vampires Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt in greater depth than the 1994 film adaptation.

The first two seasons centre initially on Louis’s account of his life with Lestat, before later revelations complicate that version of events and reframe several characters. Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid lead the cast, with Eric Bogosian, Assad Zaman and the two actors who have played Claudia also highlighted; the programme combines period production design, gore, romance and psychological drama. Its third season is titled The Vampire Lestat, while a fourth, Queen of the Damned, has been confirmed.
