Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece has emerged as one of the streaming giant's most successful anime-to-live-action projects, defying the mixed track record of similar attempts. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew as they search for the legendary One Piece treasure, and its success is credited to embracing rather than toning down the source material's surreal elements, including superpowers, giant sea creatures and outlandish costumes and sets.

The show's second season, released earlier this year, takes the crew further into the perilous Grand Line, adopting a more episodic structure as they encounter strange islands and the criminal organisation Baroque Works. Much of the praise centres on the cast, particularly Iñaki Godoy's portrayal of Luffy, alongside Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji. New additions in season two include Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, and Mikaela Hoover voicing fan-favourite character Tony Tony Chopper.
