Collider ·

Netflix is releasing Steps, a computer-animated musical that reimagines Cinderella, on 20 November 2026. Its arrival follows the success of KPop Demon Hunters, and the film’s original songs give it a similar musical focus.

In the story, Lilith, one of Cinderella’s stepsisters, takes her fairy godmother’s wand and accidentally turns her sister Margot into a frog, allowing the villainous Priscilla to threaten the kingdom. Lilith and Cinderella must join forces to save their home. The voice cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Ali Wong, Bette Midler, Stephanie Hsu and Daniel Radcliffe; the soundtrack includes a song by Blackpink’s Jennie and four songs by Justin Tranter.

Steps is an animated musical that retells the Cinderella story from the point of view of one of her stepsisters, Lilith. In this version, a mistake with a magical wand puts her sister Margot and the kingdom at risk, so Lilith and Cinderella have to work together.

The film features songs by songwriter Justin Tranter and a track by Blackpink singer Jennie. Its large voice cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Ali Wong, Bette Midler, Stephanie Hsu and Daniel Radcliffe. The musical format is part of the context: Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, another animated film built around original songs, has been a recent success.
