Netflix's British crime thriller "Legends" has drawn praise as an unexpectedly excellent addition to the streamer's crowded crime genre, standing out despite lasting just six episodes. Created by Neil Forsyth (also behind "The Gold"), the series dramatises a real undercover operation run by Britain's former Customs and Excise service in the early 1990s, in which ordinary customs officers were turned into agents infiltrating major drug trafficking networks. Its appeal lies in prioritising tension, character and emotional stakes over genre clichés, offering a tighter and more affecting experience than many longer crime dramas.

The show's title refers to the false identities its undercover agents must construct and maintain, with any slip risking exposure or worse. Tom Burke leads as Guy, a customs officer whose calm demeanour suits undercover work but who bears the personal cost of sustaining a double life, alongside a cast including Steve Coogan, Hayley Squires, Aml Ameen and Jasmine Blackborow. The series favours restraint over action, building suspense through dialogue, trust and tension rather than gunfights or chases, notably in Guy's gradual infiltration of a Turkish drug trafficking network in London.
