Netflix’s New 10-Part Mystery Thriller Is a Perfect Weekend Binge From Start to Finish
Syfy's 2025 series "Revival" is now streaming on Netflix, offering a fresh take on the zombie genre by blending it with a family drama. Based on the comic series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton and created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, the show is set in the small Wisconsin town of Wausau, where the recently deceased inexplicably return to life on what becomes known as "Revival Day". It follows Dana Cypress, a divorced police officer, as she navigates the resulting chaos while working under her father, the town's sheriff, and investigating crimes that may involve the resurrected townsfolk, called Revivers.
The revived are largely peaceful and immune to injury, though some display unsettling traits such as superhuman strength or aggressive, distorted behaviour, and the community's reaction ranges from celebration to fear and prejudice. Drawing comparisons to shows such as The Leftovers for its focus on a community grappling with the unexplainable, the series is praised for grounding its supernatural premise in strong character work, particularly around the Cypress family, with Melanie Scrofano singled out for her performance as Dana. The first season, comprising 10 episodes, has not yet been renewed for a second.
