Fantasy authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are returning to their celebrated Dragonlance setting with a new novel, Dragonlance: War Wizard, due for release on 4 August 2026 from Random House Worlds. It is the first book in a brand-new trilogy and revisits one of the saga's key origin stories, the early lives and friendship of the future heroes Huma Dragonbane and Magius. The release matters because it marks a renewed creative push for a classic setting whose popularity is currently surging again.

Dragonlance began as a Dungeons & Dragons–inspired world created by Weis and Hickman, with the first novel, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, published in 1984. The pair have since written more than 30 novels set in the world of Krynn. Alongside War Wizard, they have resumed working with Wizards of the Coast on undisclosed Dragonlance projects, joined by actor and superfan Joe Manganiello.
