‘New Girl’ Stars Reunite — in a Slightly Different Way Than Max Greenfield Claimed

The Hollywood Reporter ·

The cast of New Girl reunited at a charity event in Los Angeles on Saturday, bringing together the beloved sitcom's six stars for the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. The gathering came days after Max Greenfield falsely claimed on the Today show that creator Liz Meriwether had written scripts for a series revival, a statement that was swiftly debunked and sparked good-natured teasing from his co-stars and the creator herself.

The six cast members—Zooey Deschanel, Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone and Damon Wayans Jr.—received the Rising Phoenix Award whilst supporting Chrysalis, a Southern California nonprofit focused on employment assistance. Greenfield had organised the reunion through the cast's group chat, and during the acceptance speech, Deschanel playfully chided him for making their lives "so very annoying" with his false claim. Greenfield acknowledged the mistake and apologised, but highlighted that it had inadvertently raised crucial awareness for the charity's work. Jake Johnson also took the opportunity to tease Greenfield, noting that his co-star had misunderstood the cast's tradition of humorous insults by sincerely claiming he had read the scripts.
