Gillian Gilbert, keyboardist with New Order, has revealed she is being treated for cancer, clarifying comments made by her husband and bandmate Stephen Morris in a recent interview that had led fans to believe he was seriously ill. In a statement posted on Instagram, the 65-year-old explained that Morris was in fact well, and that it was she who was "living with cancer" like many others, correcting the misunderstanding while asking for privacy as her treatment continues.

Gilbert joined New Order shortly after its formation from the remnants of Joy Division, playing keyboards and guitar alongside Morris, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, and contributed to every album from their 1981 debut Movement to 2001's Get Ready before taking a decade away from touring to care for her family. She was previously treated successfully for breast cancer in 2007 and later returned to the band, most recently featuring on 2015's Music Complete. New Order are due to tour South America and be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November, with Gilbert and Morris to be replaced by touring musicians for those dates.
