New post-apocalyptic Gundam anime announced at Comic-Con

Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, a post-apocalyptic Gundam anime due in 2027. Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, it will launch a new “After Apocalypse” continuity, offering a standalone entry point while expanding the franchise beyond its established timelines.

The series is created by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Sola Animation, with novelist Toh EnJoe contributing to its worldbuilding. Set 100 years before the linked game Gundam Rogue Orbit, it follows war orphan and Gundam Zero pilot Ray Azumi after humanity abandons Earth following an apocalyptic outbreak; the new setting begins after an alien object’s technologies initially enabled major prosperity before it became a threat.
