Level-5 has finally confirmed a release date for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, ending years of uncertainty about the long-delayed puzzle-adventure title. The date was revealed during September's Nintendo Direct after months of silence had left fans doubting the previously stated 2026 window, even though an April trailer had reaffirmed that timeframe. The announcement matters as it marks the return of a beloved franchise that has been absent from mainline releases for over a decade, with Professor Layton and his assistant Luke investigating strange events in the industrial-era American town of Steam Bison.

The game is set to launch on Thursday 10 December, and will be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC via Steam. It is the first new mainline entry since 2013's Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, which closed out the prequel trilogy on the Nintendo 3DS, with only spin-offs and crossovers released in the years since. Level-5 first announced New World of Steam in 2023, originally targeting a 2024 launch before the project slipped to 2026.
