Sony has released a new public beta firmware update for the PS5, letting beta programme participants test upcoming system software features ahead of a wider rollout. The most notable change is that the "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" setting is now switched on by default for PS5 Pro owners, meaning the console's improved PSSR 2.0 upscaling will automatically apply to games that only officially support the older version of the technology, resulting in sharper visuals without developer updates being required.

The update also introduces a Bluetooth-related option, available only in certain countries or regions, which Sony says is designed specifically for managing controller connections at esports venues and similar events; enabling it disables rest mode and HDMI link support. Sony additionally notes general performance and stability improvements, though it says the setting can still be manually turned off via the Screen and Video menu, and further undocumented tweaks may yet surface as users explore the beta further.
