Alternative rock duo New Radicals have returned with their first original material in nearly three decades, releasing "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)" as the title track for an upcoming romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner. The film explores a fictional scenario where unmarried individuals are permitted one night annually to pursue relationships outside conventional rules. The new single maintains the duo's established stylistic signature of piano-anchored pop arranged in a nineties aesthetic.

The release represents a return to original songwriting for the band following an extended hiatus. Principal members Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois largely stepped back from the industry after a 1999 tour, though Alexander pursued substantial work composing songs for other successful recording artists over the intervening years. Recent years have seen selective reunions, including a 2021 inaugural performance and several cover songs and updated recordings released during 2024.
