A two-year heritage project will document the history of Sheffield’s travelling showpeople, centred on the Pullen/Pullin family, who have run funfairs in the city for eight generations. It matters because it aims to preserve both community memories and specialist fairground crafts that risk being lost.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded £120,000 for the project, which will gather photographs, memorabilia and personal recollections. Its outputs will include a documentary, book, exhibitions and children’s activities, while collected material will form a Pullin Family Collection at the University of Sheffield; two 1950s children’s rides will also be restored.
