Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have revealed early details of their planned Star Trek film, confirming that the script is still being developed. The project would mark a significant departure for the cinema franchise by following entirely new characters rather than returning casts or younger versions of the original crew, potentially giving Paramount a fresh starting point after a decade without a Star Trek film.

The writers, known for Game Night, discussed the film at San Diego Comic-Con and said they were enthusiastic about the script and expected audiences to be surprised by it. It will be set further into Star Trek’s future than previous instalments, while the franchise’s current television series Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are both approaching their final seasons.
