Kaz, a new $7 roguelike from developer Kalinarm, has launched on Steam and is drawing attention for blending the deckbuilding perk system of Balatro with the stripped-down, reflex-driven feel of early Flash browser games. According to a Polygon impressions piece, the game challenges players to defeat enemies appearing on a grid within tight time limits, rewarding fast reactions and building intense "one more run" appeal. The reviewer even offers a light-hearted health warning, noting the game's rapid pace can strain players' wrists during long sessions.

Each level gives players just 15 seconds to hit a score threshold by navigating a grid using WASD or arrow keys (or a compatible dance pad) to strike enemies, some of which require two hits or careful timing to avoid traps. Between levels, players choose from a range of passive perks, such as boosted points, longer combo chains or added attacks, while a "curse" meter fills from hitting traps and can force a negative perk, adding a layer of risk management.
