The New York Film Festival has added further titles to its 64th-edition Spotlight lineup, most notably Werner Herzog's "Bucking Fastard" and Cristian Mungiu's Palme d'Or winner "Fjord," alongside newly confirmed cast and plot details for previously announced films. Herzog's inclusion is particularly notable, marking his first NYFF appearance in more than four decades, since "Fitzcarraldo" closed the festival in 1982; his new film, starring real-life sisters Kate and Rooney Mara, will world-premiere at Venice beforehand. The expanding slate underscores the festival's pull with major awards-season names ahead of its autumn run at Lincoln Center.

Tom McCarthy's "A Statement," about a pivotal 1980 climate change conference, headlines with a starry ensemble including Paul Giamatti, John Turturro, Paul Rudd, Amy Ryan, Evan Peters and Tatiana Maslany, and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics. Mungiu's "Fjord," which stars Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan and won this year's Palme d'Or at Cannes, joins other Croisette imports such as Jordan Firstman's directorial debut "Club Kid" and Louis Clichy's animated "Iron Boy." Jonathan Glazer's documentary "Joy of Joys," made with composer Mica Levi, follows London schoolchildren filming the recording of War Child Records' charity album "HELP (2)" at Abbey Road, while Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus Zero" remains set to open the Spotlight Gala on 26 September.
