Newcastle United have signed 20-year-old midfielder Aladji Bamba from Monaco in a deal worth up to £34m, strengthening their options in central midfield. Bamba has signed a five-year contract after making 25 appearances for Monaco last season across Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He is Newcastle’s fourth summer signing, all aged 20 or under, and follows Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Touré and Sean Steur; the club’s strategy is also shaped by the need to comply with UEFA spending rules after a recent settlement agreement.
