NFL monitors France street violence before Saints-Steelers game near Paris with a major decision looming

Fox News ·

The NFL is monitoring unrest in France ahead of its first regular-season game in the country, where the New Orleans Saints are due to host the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday at the Stade de France near Paris. The league has no current plan to move the fixture, but a source said a venue change could be considered if events warrant it, making security and local conditions central to the decision.

Reports said demonstrations involving 500,000 to 800,000 people escalated into clashes, looting and fires; arrests were reported to have risen from 1,000 to 1,800, including 855 in the Paris region. The teams are preparing to travel to France, with the Saints planning to arrive from the New York area and spend the week acclimatising. A return to New Orleans would be difficult because the Superdome is booked that day, while the Steelers’ Acrisure Stadium has no event scheduled.
