A modder has restored one of the original Nier game's two protagonists to its 2021 remaster, Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139, addressing a long-standing gap for fans. The 2010 original was released in two versions with different lead characters, but only one, the younger "Brother Nier", was included when Square Enix remastered the game, leaving the older "Father Nier" absent from the global release entirely.

The mod, called Nier Gestalt ver.1.22474487139, was released by modder Elevna on 30 July and reintroduces Father Nier throughout the entire game rather than simply swapping character models. It recreates nearly all of his alternate outfits, ports over the original Gestalt voice-over, and adjusts new remaster content such as Route E and the World of Recycled Vessel DLC to work with his presence, while making Brother Nier playable in that DLC segment instead. The mod is available free on NexusMods for PC players.
