Nintendo exec says “new games and remakes both have a place” following Zelda: Ocarina of Time launch
Nintendo senior vice president Nate Bihldorff says new games and remakes are equally important to the company. He argues that revisiting acclaimed games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time can satisfy longtime fans while introducing the series to people who never played the original.
The remake, released 28 years after the 1998 original, is described as the highest-rated game of 2026 so far and entered Metacritic’s all-time top 30 within a day. Bihldorff says fresh releases in established series remain important too, and sees remakes as complementing them rather than replacing them.
In short
- Nintendo considers new games and remakes equally important.
- Ocarina of Time’s remake was released 28 years after the original.
- Remakes can introduce classic series to new players.
