Nintendo has announced Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D entry in its long-running sci-fi action series, during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation. The game arrives just under two years after Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, marking a rapid follow-up for the franchise, and will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 January 2027, giving fans a fresh side-scrolling adventure to look forward to.

The reveal trailer, narrated by protagonist Samus Aran, shows her ambushed by mysterious enemies on a moon and forced into the depths below to fight her way out, gaining an energy-draining ability that lets her absorb foes and alter her suit's appearance and powers. Nintendo has not confirmed the developer, but strong stylistic similarities to 2021's Metroid Dread suggest returning studio MercurySteam, which also made Metroid: Samus Returns. Alongside the standard release, a special edition featuring a SteelBook case and a Samus amiibo will be available, along with two further amiibo figures of Samus and a Chozo statue, all launching on the same date.
