Nippon Steel raises FY26 profit forecast by 52% on robust US Steel earnings
Nippon Steel raised its fiscal 2026 net profit forecast by 52 per cent to 440 billion yen ($2.8 billion), driven mainly by stronger-than-expected earnings at US Steel. The upgrade marks a sharp improvement on its August forecast and reflects the growing contribution of its US business.
The company expects US Steel, including Slovak subsidiary NSSK, to generate 230 billion yen in underlying business profit, 50 billion yen more than previously forecast, with higher US steel prices helping. A 96 billion yen Arkansas tax credit and stronger raw-materials earnings also support the outlook. Nippon Steel reported a first-half net profit of 263 billion yen, compared with a 113 billion yen loss a year earlier.
In short
- Nippon Steel lifted its fiscal 2026 profit forecast by 52 per cent.
- US Steel is expected to contribute 230 billion yen in underlying profit.
- First-half net profit reached 263 billion yen after a year-earlier loss.
