Nithya Raman & Karen Bass In Dead Heat As L.A. Mayor Vote Counting Continues In Nailbiter Election
Nithya Raman has won the Los Angeles mayoral election after incumbent Karen Bass conceded as vote counting continued. Raman’s victory is a setback for the city’s political establishment, which largely backed Bass, and gives voters a change of leadership after a campaign focused on issues including the wildfires, Olympic costs and quality of life.
With 72% of expected votes counted, Raman had 429,450 votes, or 52.1%, to Bass’s 394,796, or 47.9%; the widening lead made it mathematically impossible for Bass to catch up. Raman, a 45-year-old two-term City Council member, thanked voters and said she would work to earn the trust of those who did not support her. Bass, 73, congratulated Raman and pledged a smooth transition. Raman has also made revitalising film and television production a priority.
In short
- Nithya Raman won the Los Angeles mayoral race.
- Karen Bass conceded as Raman’s lead grew.
- Raman pledged to earn the trust of all voters.
