Newcastle United midfielder Jordan Nobbs has said that guiding the club to promotion to the Women's Super League would represent "job done" in her career, despite having already won 12 major trophies and earned 71 England caps during her time at Arsenal. The 33-year-old, who was Newcastle's marquee signing last year, is originally from Durham and began her career at Sunderland before moving south as the women's game turned professional, meaning promotion would carry particular significance in bringing top-flight football back to the North East.

Newcastle finished sixth in the Women's Championship last season, with Nobbs citing too many drawn matches as a key factor holding the club back. Under manager Tanya Oxtoby, who previously managed Northern Ireland and worked alongside Emma Hayes at Chelsea, the club has made several changes ahead of the new campaign and is openly targeting promotion. Nobbs, who also spoke of embracing a senior, experienced role within the squad, said the team begin their season at home to Wolves on 6 September.
