Norrie beats Buse to reach Canadian Open last 32

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Cameron Norrie has advanced to the last 32 of the Canadian Open with a straight-sets victory over Peru's Ignacio Buse, continuing his recent return to form. The British number two's win keeps up momentum after he ended a six-match losing streak with a semi-final run at last week's Los Cabos Open, and it sets up a notable next-round tie against Australian world number seven Alex de Minaur in Montreal.

Norrie beat Buse 6-3 6-3 in one hour and 29 minutes, breaking serve at the first opportunity in each set to control the match, despite Buse levelling the second set at 2-2 before requiring a medical timeout. It followed Norrie's opening-round win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli. His last-32 opponent, de Minaur, recently married British number two Katie Boulter and the pair are due to play doubles together at the US Open.
