Lando Norris has called for Franco Colapinto to receive a one-race ban after the Alpine driver locked up at Turn One during a restart at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Colapinto’s car hit team-mate Pierre Gasly, who then collided with Norris, causing all three drivers to retire and highlighting the consequences for competitors not responsible for the incident.

Colapinto apologised and described the crash as a major mistake caused by losing control under braking. He received a 10-second penalty, expected to become a grid drop of about five places at the next race, while Alpine lost a chance to score points and fell 15 points behind Racing Bulls in the constructors’ championship fight. Gasly said he was “crushed”, and McLaren had not yet established whether Norris’s damaged upgraded parts could be used at the next event.
