Sri Lanka’s High Court has convicted 15 men over their alleged roles in planning the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, which killed 270 people and injured more than 500. The verdict is significant for victims and families who have long demanded accountability for the country’s deadliest attacks since its civil war ended.

The convicted men include Naufer Moulavi, whom prosecutors described as the mastermind; nine others were acquitted and one defendant died in custody. The attacks struck three churches and three luxury hotels, killing 45 foreigners. The case involved more than 23,000 charges, over 2,300 prosecution witnesses and 2,076 pieces of evidence, amid continuing scrutiny of intelligence failures and official negligence.
