Welsh Olympic champion Emma Finucane says she has "nothing to prove" heading into the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, despite hoping to finally win gold in Scotland after taking two bronzes at Birmingham 2022. Since then, the 23-year-old sprint cyclist has collected 16 medals across the Olympics, World and European Championships, and credits her Birmingham experience as a "springboard" that built the confidence behind her rapid rise, including Olympic team sprint gold at Paris 2024.

Finucane will compete in the team sprint, individual sprint, 1km time trial and keirin at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, facing strong competition including England's Sophie Capewell, Katy Marchant and Rhianna Parris-Smith, Scotland's Lauren Bell, and New Zealand's three-time Birmingham champion Ellesse Andrews. Her partner, cyclist Matt Richardson, who competes for England, will miss the Games through injury, though Finucane says their shared sport helps them support one another through competition highs and lows.
