Light, maker of minimalist "dumbphones," has added a Rideshare tool that lets users book Uber and Lyft trips directly from the Light Phone III and the upcoming Light Flip. The move marks a notable step for a device explicitly designed to be used as little as possible, but it fits founder Kaiwei Tang's stated philosophy of building modern functionality "from the ground up" while stripping away distracting feeds and notifications, so that essential features don't push users back to more app-heavy phones.

The feature lets users find pick-up and drop-off points, view fares and estimated arrival times, choose trip options or saved locations, book a ride, and contact the driver once one is assigned. It is powered through a partnership with Tremp, which already runs an SMS-based rideshare booking service, and is set up via Light's online dashboard like other LightOS tools. Tremp charges a 10% service fee with a $2 minimum, though the first five rides within 30 days of account creation are fee-free. The tool is also an early preview of LightOS's forthcoming "tool library" SDK, which Light says will open to developer submissions by the end of the month, with wider availability expected a few weeks later.
