Jersey swimmer Filip Nowacki won silver in the 100m breaststroke, ending the island’s 36-year wait for a Commonwealth Games medal. The 18-year-old’s result is also Jersey’s first silver at the Games and strengthens his prospects of becoming its most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete.

Nowacki finished 0.17 seconds behind Australia’s Sam Williamson, while world record-holder Adam Ramsay-Peaty took bronze, 0.31 seconds behind Nowacki. He moved from fourth at the halfway point with a strong final 50m, and will next contest the 50m breaststroke before targeting the 200m event, where he is British champion and fastest qualifier.
