NYC fashion student raped and left to die of drug overdose in her dorm by teen who sent photos of her unconscious to his friends, prosecutors say
A New York fashion student died after taking fentanyl she believed was cocaine, and another student was left critically ill. Federal prosecutors allege that 19-year-old Moises Freire supplied the drug, raped one woman while she was unconscious and delayed seeking help, making the case about both alleged drug distribution and sexual assault.
Prosecutors say Freire’s alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Brian Peralta Cabrera, supplied the fentanyl, and that the pair had discussed getting the women hooked on drugs. The students lost consciousness after taking the substance in their dorm on 18 March; Freire allegedly photographed them and sent the images to others before approaching campus security about 45 minutes later. One woman recovered after hospital treatment, while the other died three days later from acute fentanyl intoxication. Both men have pleaded not guilty to earlier charges; the new indictment carries a mandatory minimum of 20 years and a maximum of life in prison.
