New York man jailed for eight years over stabbing attack on woman
Christopher Joseph was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for stabbing Kaitlynn Berman repeatedly after she asked him to leave her New York apartment. Berman was distressed by the sentence, which was shorter than the 10 years prosecutors sought, and says the attack has left lasting physical and psychological effects.
The attack happened in March 2025 in front of Berman’s daughter; police said Joseph also took her phone and nearly $6,000. Berman underwent three surgeries and blood transfusions, and has permanent nerve damage in both hands, according to her adviser. Joseph accepted a plea deal and declined to address the court at sentencing.
In short
- Joseph received eight and a half years in prison.
- Prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence.
- Berman says the attack caused lasting injuries and trauma.
