OBITUARY’s TERRY BUTLER: ‘We’ve Been Talking About Potentially Throwing Around Some Ideas’ For Next Studio Album

Blabbermouth ·

OBITUARY bassist Terry Butler says the band has discussed starting to develop ideas for a new studio album, but has set no writing, recording or release dates. The comments suggest new music is on the band’s agenda, although its touring schedule and the lack of a firm timetable make any release uncertain.

Butler said OBITUARY’s most recent album, *Dying of Everything*, came out in January 2023. He described gaps of two or three years between albums as typical now, with bands spending much of that time touring; the group has more than 10 albums and around 140 songs to draw on live. Earlier comments from frontman John Tardy pointed to gathering musical ideas and possibly working them into a release, while drummer Donald Tardy cautioned that plans can shift.

  • OBITUARY have discussed ideas for a new album.

OBITUARY are an American heavy metal band formed in Florida in the late 1980s. The group’s line-up includes bassist Terry Butler, singer John Tardy and drummer Donald Tardy, and it has released more than 10 studio albums.

Their latest album, Dying of Everything, was released in January 2023. Bands such as OBITUARY often spend long stretches touring between albums, and the group has a large back catalogue of songs to play live. That schedule helps explain why discussion of new music does not necessarily mean an album is imminent.

Any new album would add to a career spanning several decades and give the band fresh material to perform. So far, the members have discussed developing ideas, but have not set dates for writing, recording or release.
